From the Mushroom Kingdom, and the planet Mobius, here comes two formiddable opponents.

This was announced quite a while ago, but details are finally coming to fruition about Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
We've had a few screenshots, and even an E3 07 Trailer, but lets all be honest here, even with the amazing concept of Mario and Sonic finally going head to head, why the Olympics? You know that this is just going to be Track And Field, Olympic style games were never anything special.

I assure you, this game WILL sell as a historic moment, a clash of the retro titans. Though I hate Randy Solem with a passion, people have always wanted to see this happen. This submission alone is the first google result for Mario Vs Sonic.

But I can't say I'm overly excited to see Nintendo or Sega characters to compete in the Olympics at all, I don't think anyone is, everyone would rather that Sonic makes it into Super Smash Brothers Brawl so that he can finally duke it out with Mario.

I think this picture will prove a point, that mostly nobody gives a crap about the setting, just the characters involved.
It excites me to see Sonic against Mario, and Tails against Luigi there, along with Eggman and Bowser.

Really though, SONIC FOR BRAWL.

Well we're finally going to see the fierce rivalry between Sonic and Mario on Wii i guess.
The battle between two of the ancientest rivarly in Video gaming are finally going to be inside a game

An OFFICIAL game I might add, there's been many a fan game where Sonic can fight Mario.

But the Olympics isn't really a battle as such, it's competing. :\

Oh, and it'll be a DS title too.

I really don't like how the game looks. I am not going to buy the game for sure, but I may rent. Though if you think about it, dont you think Sonic can beat Mario in a lot of competitions with his super fast runing skilz? I don't know how that will work out, but if they can make this game, they can put the blue blur in SSBB.

There's licensing issues, Nintendo only own the rights to use Sonic like this right now, anything 3rd party like this needs prior consent.

Although, given the popularity of Sonic for Brawl, even among Nintendo, Sega and Sonic's creator Yuji Naka, they surely must be trying.

Nevertheless, SSBB will surely be a great game for Wii and all we can do now is wait 'till Dec. 3rd (I think it launches worldwide that day). If we don't see Sonic then oh well. As for this Olympics game, I think it's kinda cheesy. It looks like it is (at least partly) and advertisement for the olympics. I know it is more than that and is kind of a big thing with Sonic Universe vs. Mario Universe, but I just don't like what I have seen so far.

Actually, Dec 3rd is only confirmed as the American release date, Europe and Japan still have no date, maybe soon...
